Filing sales tax for businesses today

A tax engine gives you a number.
We do the work.

Salta is the operating system for sales tax compliance. We work out where you owe, register you with every authority, file and remit on schedule, and answer the letters that come back from state and city agencies.

AI agents do the work. A tax professional signs off.

What it is

An AI agent that files your sales tax

Not a tool you learn. Not a person you hire. Agents that do the last mile end to end, with a tax professional signing before anything reaches a government.

The difference

Everyone sells you a tool.
We do the job.

Sales tax is not a calculation problem. It is a last-mile problem, and the last mile is where every other option stops.

Tax software

Avalara · TaxJar · Anrok
  • Calculates a rate
  • Watches nexus thresholds
  • Produces a return for you to file
  • Assumes you already collect
  • Help center when a notice lands
  • You still need a person to run it

Salta

AI agents · expert sign-off
  • Determines where you actually owe
  • Registers you with every authority
  • Files and remits, state and local
  • Works portals that have no API
  • Reads and answers agency letters
  • A tax professional signs every return

Traditional CPA

Your local firm
  • Knows the work, has no hours
  • Days or weeks for a reply
  • Billed hourly, priced upmarket
  • Sales tax is their least profitable line
  • Retiring faster than replaced
  • 340,000 have left since 2019
Why software alone does not solve it

The tax you have never heard of
is the one that gets you

15%

Illinois charges nothing. Chicago charges 15%.

Sell software into Chicago and the city taxes it as a nonpossessory computer lease, at a rate it has raised from 9% to 11% to 15%. You file that with the city's own department of finance, not the state. Every category has a version of this, and no tax engine goes and does it for you.

11,000+

Jurisdictions, each with its own rules

Forms, portals, deadlines and letters, all different. Deciding whether your product is taxable in a given city, getting a registration approved, working a portal with no API, and answering the agency when it writes back is all still manual work.

State and local agencies need revenue and sales tax is where they are taking it. Retailers, brands, agencies, IT firms and software companies are all being pulled in. This does not run in reverse.

How it works

You run the business.
We run the compliance.

01

Find where you owe

We read your billing system and work out which states, counties and cities you have crossed a threshold in.

02

Register

With each authority separately. Not just the state. The county, the city, and the special district.

03

File and remit

On the schedule the agency assigns. Agents work the portals, a professional signs, we pay.

04

Handle the mail

When a letter arrives we read it, draft the response and resolve it. You hear from us, not the state.

Pricing

Flat, per filing.
Nothing to negotiate.

$75
Per state, per filing

The agency assigns your filing frequency, so your bill tracks the work rather than a seat count. One state on a quarterly schedule is $300 a year. One state filing monthly is $900.

  • Registration billed once, at onboarding
  • Notice and letter handling billed as it happens
  • State, county, city and district filings included
  • A tax professional reviews and signs every return
  • No seats, no annual contract, no minimum
Questions

Frequently asked

How is this different from Avalara or TaxJar?

They sell software. We do the work. Their product calculates a rate and produces a return, and then someone at your company still has to get the registration approved, log into the portal, file it, remit the money and answer the agency when it writes back. That is the part we automate, and it is the part that actually takes the time.

Do I really owe tax in a city?

Often, yes, and it is the most commonly missed obligation. Chicago is the clearest example: Illinois does not tax software at the state level, but the City of Chicago does, at 15%, filed directly with the city. There are more than 11,000 sales and use tax jurisdictions in the US, and the local ones are where businesses get hurt.

Who actually signs my returns?

A tax professional. AI agents prepare everything and work the portals, but nothing is transmitted to a government until a human with domain expertise has reviewed and signed it. In tax, a confidently wrong answer is worse than a late one.

What happens when I get a notice?

You send it to us and we deal with it. Reading the letter, working out what the agency actually wants, drafting the response and resolving it is included. This is the moment most software sends you to a help center.

When can I start?

We are onboarding a small number of businesses at a time while we build. Join the waitlist and tell us where you sell. If you have a filing deadline closer than our queue, say so and we will move first.

Get ahead of it

You are probably already owed somewhere.

Tell us where you sell. We will tell you where you owe, and then we will go file it.

No spam. We write when we can take you on, or sooner if a deadline is about to hit you.
